    Posted on October 29, 2011 by ok4u2bu

These are some old pictures of peasants who lived in the 19th-20th centuries in the Krasnoyarsk Region. Most of them were taken during an expedition to Yenisei Province in West Siberia, which began in 1911 under the direction of a museum worker. Its aim was to explore and photograph the culture and everyday life of the people who lived there.

This very picture was taken in 1916.

The superviser of the mine. The picture was taken in 1887.

Supervisers’ job was to supervise the work and accept gold from the workers. This kind of shirt was very popular among miners of that time. High-heeled boots were in fashion in 1880-1890 too. A hat and a watch hanging on a chain or a string, were a luxury showing the status of their owner.

A country teacher with her family, 1916.

A medical assistant and a convict man, 34, who has covered a distance of 40 versts (50 kilometers) on foot, when the temperature in the street was 30 degreed below zero. 1911.

Word. One can almost feel the hard work wafting off those folks. I wish I knew them. I’d also like to take every Wall Street speculator back in time and drown them in their cesspits.

Wonderful photographs! Life was a lot different back then, but the people appear healthy and happy (if rather serious in front of the camera)

I can only imagine how things went for some of these Kulaks and their children with shining eyes, when the weather changed for the worse, in the 1920′s and 1930′s.

Glorious pictures of a world that is irrevocably gone, never to return.

Thank you English Russia for posting them.
