What Remained of the White House In Sukhumi

Sukhumi White House has been in a sorry sight for over 18 years. This 13-storey building located in the center of the city, is like a monument to the fallen warriors which reminds the people of the war with Georgia.

Unlike regular monuments which are aimed at honouring the soldiers, this building looks like a reproach to those who wanted to build a new life in the repuclic.

This is pretty strange that they have neither reconstructed it yet nor demolished.

Any person may enter this building to do the deed! In the picture you can see a pile of garbage inside the building.

In the middle of the building there is a grove.

Taking into account the fact that it is located in the subtropics, it is sure that nature will take this unnecessary for people building back very quickly .

Some years ago people used to debate, approve or reject bills here but when the war began, it turned into a target for soldiers and a shelter for snipers. Then all of them left.

This square had either marble or asphalt floor but now it is overgrown with grass and looks like a nice golf field.

These are traces of firing and a reflection of the music taste some of its inhabitants had.

The back view of the building.

Behind the house of the government there is a residential building and a broken bus which is great for kids playing.

This is a square which can be seen from the first floor.

Some thrifty people have stolen the marble from this staircase.

The left wing of the building.

A view from the second floor.

The right wing of the building.

This is a base of some monument (maybe Lenin). Now it is a publicity wall.

Some say that they do not reconstruct buildings here due to the lack of funds because the situation has been very unstable in the republic for over 15 years because it was not sovereign. Others say that the Abkhazians are very lazy to do anything by themselves that is why they are waiting for Russsia’s help.

Hopefully, they will begin reconstruction soon to prove that they are a new severeign developing republic.

It is probably full of very bad memories. No body wants to deal with it.

It does look like it was once a beautiful building.

Oddly, for me anyway, the old bus has more charm then the ruins. It’s utterly utilitarian in nature yet still cool! They don’t make them like that anymore… i wish it could be rescued, but it looks like it’s best days are behind it.

Yeah, right. Do you know the reason why Abkhazians want to be independent of Georgians? Because they can’t live together. Your hatred of Russia is comical.
