    Testing Endurance Of Airplanes

    10
Posted on September 8, 2011 by kulichik

Did you know that not every plane can be reliable enough? Let’s visit a workshop with restricted access where static load tests of aviation equipment used to be performed. The tests ensured that the plane wouldn’t be broken in the air due to heavy loads.

Static trials represent an experimental test method of defected mode and static strength of a plane construction. Static trials evaluate actual strength of a plane with the help of its testing before destruction. The place looked rather impressive. A huge Il-76TD is presented in the picture. The first flight was made on May 5, 1982.

Static trials are necessary as methods of projection and estimation of airplanes for their endurance used in the machine construction are ideal and different from reality. The workshop in the picture is very high which makes tests of both small and large airplanes possible.

Different recording facilities are located next to the cabin.

The massive metal constructions served as a base for trial conduction.

Endurance of plane wings are tested here.

Trial results were sent to the control center above.

    The wing.

Cats are now owners of the place.

Only a thick layer of dust proves that people have not gone for a break.

    Inside the plane.

    The cabin.

    The axis of plane symmetry.

    Load fastening.

    The tail.

    Il-103.

This wooden plane is used for configuration ergonomics and correction of drafts.

The Ilyushin Il-103 is a single-engined, low-winged training aircraft, the Ilyushin Design Bureau started its development in 1990 in the Soviet Union and the aircraft is now produced in Russia.

    Remains of Il-96-300.

The place look well, I imagine that exist interest in the world for such tests… at least to relocate the lab.

Perhaps if this place was still funded and operational Russian aircraft would not fall out of the sky or crash on takeoff quite so much.

Looks in very good shape for being abandoned, but have never seen so much abandonment as in Russia.
