Visiting A Training Centre For Railroad Troops

At the training center for railroad troops you can find out everything about soldierly household, splendid museum and recollections.

The center is surrounded by picturesque scenery including blue spruces and tidy lawns.

This dining-room is used by officers.

Second course includes spaghetti and meat. The dish is very simple and tasty.

‘Control corner’

Another dining-room which is used by soldiers.

The army of today differs much from what it used to be. In 2006 soldiers were made to participate in cooking. Now food is prepared by civil cooks. Every soldier is supplied with a food-tray which has an equal amount of food on it. Before cooks used to lay the table for 6 people and could serve less amount of food.

Soldiers of former days say working in a pig-house was the most difficult and disgusting thing. They had to bring part of the food wastes to pigs and another part part – to the compost pile. Those who didn’t balance properly could fall right into the stinking hole. The pig-house doesn’t exist today. New soldiers will never know what it means to work there. The military unit contains an interesting museum that can be attended by anyone. What you need to do is to gather a group and arrange for an excursion.

The museum.

It contains a lot of interesting exhibits. Lectures delivered by the museum conservator allows to learn many facts you have never known before. It is not possible to take pictures of every museum exhibit.

This hall is devoted to railroad troops.

Soldiers in the army have a chance to get a primary professional education. Thus, milling machine operators not only study here but also accomplish different simple tasks such as fence whitewashing, cutting the grass, etc.

But future engine drivers and crane men are seldom given similar orders as they need to spend more time on studying.

Today soldiers spend 1 year in the army. 3 months are devoted to studying. If before classes lasted till 6 PM, now the time is prolonged.

Many officers believe that the service period need to be extended to 1, 5 years. “Our purpose is a perfect battalion”.

Guard dogs are trained here.

Interesting. Museum looks well worth a visit. But as far as the soldiers’ and officers’ food goes, there’s no comparison between Russia and the USA. Not even in the same league. Nevertheless, I respect these men’s service.
