Touching The Sky Of Kirgizia

Would you like to visit mountains that remained unconquered up to the invention of the airplane? The Tien Shan mountain is an endless region that lies between Kazakhstan, Kyrgyistan and China. Many of its peaks have never been explored till now.

The vast and unknown valleys are populated only by flocks of sheep and shepherds on horseback.

Lake Issyk Kul.

On the way to the mountains.

The fir-trees that are 40-50 meters long are situated along the Karkar river at the border with Kazakhstan.

Nomands tents are located next to the grass-land.

At 3354 meters above the sea level.

This frontier guard station is abandoned now.


It is difficult to climb the mountains located 3000 meters above the sea level.

It’s cold inside the gut.

This frontier guard station is acting.

The road has existed since Soviet times. Its condition is not that bad in spite of the fact it has never been repaired much.

The weather is getting worse.

2800 meters above the sea level.

Let’s see how the car can cope with all the water around.


Numerous waterfalls.

The ground is covered with moraine. Ice under it is gray and dirty.

Khan Tengri, the second-highest mountain in the Tian Shan (7010 m).

Nansen peak.

Local horse-breeders.

    These pictures remind me so much of why I love living here in Colorado. Kyrgyzstan has much higher peaks than we have.
