Huge Construction of the Bridge Across The Dnepr

Posted on July 6, 2011 by kulichik

One stage of the most famous project was realized in Kiev, Ukraine. The remarkable event was related to construction of the first segment of the bridge across the Dnepr river. Let’s see the scale of the work.

The bridge will be fixed on two arched girders. Its inferior section was ready 2 years ago. The superior part was mounted with the help of the barge crane that was specially constructed for that purpose.

The first painted segment of the arch is ready for the mounting.

The subdiagonal part located right under the segment is needed to ensure exact attachment of the elements.

First attempts to raise the segment.

    Trial elevation of the segment.

    The mounting point.

    Beginning of the elevation process.

    The onlookers

It takes 7 minutes to raise an element for 1 meter.

    Rotation of the segment.

The huge segment has to be placed down very carefully. These last steps are important for the future life of the entire construction.

    Slow elevation of the element.

Another element is waiting to be shifted here.

The work is almost over. The element is in its place.

Interesting choice of construction design. Will it weather well? Or is it soon to be abandoned

I was starting to wonder to myself if it was going to take 7 frigging minutes just to see the whole damn thing raised AND connected in this post. But I see we’re going to have to wait EVEN LONGER because they still didn’t show the segment connected.

This is just another one of those “EnglishRussia Teaser Posts” where they show something in the process of being done and you might or might not ever see or read about it on here again.

What the Hell ever happened to that nice Russian Family who were traveling around the World??? They were in a mini van driving as much as they could and were in South or Central America and I never saw anything else about them on here again.
