    Three New Actions of Femen

    35
Posted on June 7, 2011 by CJ

The Femen movement can’t be inactive and silent. Over the last week they held 3 actions! All of them raise serious problems. Details inside the post.

    Advertisement:

May 30, 2011. A railway station. The Femen against surrogacy.

A pregnant Femen activist tried to sell her unborn child to the passengers of one of the Ukrainian railway stations. The action was intended to demonstrate the criminal and inhuman nature of the surrogate-mother’s business in the economically backward Ukraine. Skillfully manipulating the poverty, desperation and ignorance of women, mafia-controlled authorities try to privatize the reproductive function of Ukrainian women, building a multimillion-dollar business on it. Ukrainian women are the same product as the Donbas coal for them.

June 2, 2011. The joint action of the Femen and deceived investors of the protracted construction called “Bare Walls”.

The cheated investors of infamous Troyeshchinsky towers got stripped right on the ruins of their homes. They hope that the view of naked bodies against a background of bare walls will force the Ukrainian government to fulfill its promise to finish building by 2012.

    “Satisfy us”

“We have no place to do this”

    “Satisfy us”

“Move your pistons” (meaning “Hurry up”)

    “Satisfy us”

“We have nowhere to do this”

    “Move your pistons”

    “Satisfy us”

June 6, 2011. The National Union of Ukrainian Journalists. “Down with jeans!”

The purpose of the action was not only to express the utter respect for Ukrainian journalists on their professional holiday (Journalist’s Day), but also remind of some problems corroding their profession. These are the dictatorship of publication and channel owners, sponsored articles and stories, payed out loyalty, i.e. all that is called “jean”. The Femen call on the 4th power in Ukraine not to become similar to the other three ones and banish corruption.

These women do have good messages. Apparently the local media won’t listen to them so they strip and get their message across as best they can. I wish them success.

The “surrogacy” affair sounds weird. Do the women in Ukraine really use their wombs to make money? Is it a wide-spread thing or a marginal occurence picked up and ephasized by Femen?

I live in Ukraine. Certainly it’s not a wide-spread thing but I think it takes place sometimes. I don’t know… maybe statistics says that it takes place more often than in other European countries. Maybe it’s prohibited almost anywhere besides Ukraine and Femen demands to prohibit surrogacy in Ukraine too.

The above problems are caused/exacerbated by a capitalist economic system; the mafia, corruption, fraud, etc. are always present when money is the overriding aspect of a system. But I guess these people would reject egalitarian socialism in a heartbeat; if so, their protests are hollow.

        A. Bunka here. Just because the Ukraine has rejected a system that subjugated their country for 70 years, and lead to the death of millions, does not mean these women have relinquished their right of peaceful protest. Let’s face it: you may not approve of FEMEN and how they protest, but they have a point, and they have found a way to make people watch.

I agree with Dragon. I quite simply cannot understand why so many responders to these sites are so horrified and disrespectful of the women of FEMEN. Whether these women are pretty or ugly, fat or slim, old or young, they are still women. They are still females and they still represent over half of the human population. What they say, what they feel or what they protest about, they are equals to any male human out there. These women have as much right to be heard as any of us. Their voices carry the same weight as any male’s voice. Why is there so much insecurity among the world when women bare their breasts or take a stand on a subject that they are passionate about. We males have done a pretty good job of screwing this world up; perhaps we should start listening to what these women have to say instead of berating them. Anna and her team have a message that needs listening to. I wish I could understand their language so I can hear what they have to say. Perhaps if all you Mastrophobians need a different distraction may I suggest you’al look at their eyes instead of their breasts. Then maybe you’ll start to understand what these women are trying to express you.

In my neighborhood some dog owners take their dogs for a walk with leash that not remotely match the color of their fur! I want to invite these girls to perform a demonstration against such lack of respect for pets. They can demonstrate from my bedroom as a symbol of the dormant society.
