6 LEGO-Jeeping

Contrary to the established opinion, LEGO is not just a construction kit with bricks, houses and little men. There are many different branches of LEGO-modelling, and one of them is model-car construction. These photos were made at an interesting competition – LEGO Offroader Racing in Moscow.

There is number of categories of models – trucks, offroaders, racing cars… They all differ by the control and gear types, axis number etc.

This model of MAZ 7310 fire truck can even fight tiny fires.

Let’s have a brief look trough all the models.

“Car-care centre”.

These boys seem to know more than professional moto- and jeep-casters. They spoke about different types of wheel suspension, about types of gears -which is lighter and more reliable, about the mounting of winch drives, wheels and underframes.

The rules of the competition are very simple. The model must be operated via remote control. It cannot be touched or pushed while on race. There is of course a special system of penalty points charge.

In total there were 8 competitors except the MAZ.

This model had the worst centre of gravity and gained a lot of penalty points.

And this monster was too big for the race – it had serious difficulties with obstacle crossing.

The constructor of the truck above.

The next model is something between a pick-up and a small truck with worm gear wheels.

One of the young “experts” and his model.

Another young constructor (the 3-rd place).

Practically an ideal model – light, maneuvrable, with low gravity centre and good torsion torque.

Another interesting jeep…

This truck was a debutant of the competition, but performed very well.

MAZ 7310 performed out of competition.

291 became the winner of the race!

Legos are great. Every kid should have a tub full of them.

However, some of the guys in this post look a little old to be playing with legos. No chances of them getting girlfriends I think
