13 Russian Winter Air-Baloon Flight

Russian Winter Air-Baloon Flight

Air-balloon flight can undoubtedly be an amazing experience for everyone who doesn’t have bad head of heights and enjoys breathtaking perspectives. But this flight is quite an unusual one – not every day you can observe Russian winter from 350-meter-height.

For those who don’t know – the principle of air-balloon’s operation is based on hot air. In the picture you can see the specific device, which brings a balloon into action.

Almost ready…

…and finally the balloon gets off the ground!

A horseshoe!

Flying over villages and other buildup areas you feel yourself like playing “The Sims”! It seems that just one mouse cursor click – and tiny people do what you command!

It can be hard to believe but it’s no Photoshop….camel-birds…

While the air temperature was about 10 F, in the gondola it was quite warm.

The snowy winter forest from the bird’s-eye perspective is fairly beautiful!

After the landing there is a certain tradition of balloonist initiation. After you made your first flight, your hair is singed a bit, poured with champagne and you’re titled as “Earl The-place-of-your-landing”!

This tradition comes from the 18-th century. On September the 19th, 1783 in a court yard of the royal castle Versailles near Paris, in the presence of Louis ХVI the first balloon rose in air with three passengers in the gondola: a ram, a cock and a duck. Louis ХVI was interested in the entertainment, and wished to soar up in the sky personally to observe the darling France and its kind citizens from height. In euphoria of free flight the king exclaimed: «I give you, the brothers, all lands which you see, and a palatine title in addition!». But after landing Louis ХVI, famous for inconsistency of his actions and decisions, corrected himself: «you will own all these lands but only when you are over them». But the title to brothers Montgolfier he really gave.

Many languages call the Ostrich something pertaining to “camel”. I think it comes from their middle eastern origins.

Nice post of beautiful countryside, but the balloon continues the romanticization of a spoiled rich kid who grew up to be a sadisitic, brutal executioner and failure at the one professional-level job he was ever asked to perform.
