Once you see this museum you will remember it for a long time. Dondi-Yurt Museum is in a Chechen town Urus-Martan and its founder – Adam Satuev nicknamed Dondo. This person and his awesome museum will be the subject of this article.

The first private museum in the Chechen Republic was opened in Urus-Martan couple years ago. Its founder – ex – police colonel and sportsman Adam Satuev – began to collect antiquities in the early 90’s. In his museum he reconstructed everyday life of Chechen aul (mountain village) – houses, towers, terraces. These are not just reconstructed, but built of the stones left of the destroyed ancient towers.

Stones are Dondo’s special love. He gathers them across whole republic. Every stone has its own story.

Some of the stones are older than dinosaurs.

” I have stones, pieces of rock appreciated high by experts, but they are not interesting for me. My attention is captured by something unusual. Look at this “heart” created by the nature! No extra line, only absolute symmetry.  Such hearts are usually drawn to express love. “

There are hundreds, thousands stones here. They are of different sizes and colours. But Adam seems to remember each stone of his collection, where and why each of them lies.

There are also other period pieces – wooden wheels of carts, old barrels, jars. Everything is real – no remakes.

Adam gathered all these things in the hardest years of the war – he came to villages and auls and asked people to give him old unnecessary things.

Many people couldn’t understand why he needed all that during the war.

But Dondo replied them: the war will end sooner or later, and it’s important to save the Chechen history for the next generations.

At last the war was over. He began to build towers of ancient stones on his territory.
