
One photographer from Europe moved to St. Petesburg in the middle of the 19th century. At that time there weren’t photo studios there and he began to make commercial photography and take pics of Russian people who lived in the city.

everyone knows that VANS stands for iVan’s Shoes…the “i” became silent throughout the years and then got removed altogether. the original Vans were made out of straw and are displayed at the Smithsonian.

If you had to work long shifts in cold days with little profit/success/fun/freedom, would you be smiling? Think of what time this was in.
People never smiled in photos in that day in age. Same with American pictures as well.
Years and years ago, you didn’t smile for two reasons. One, long exposure times. You had to keep very still, often for several seconds or upwards of a minute — maybe even more. Two, it was a rare thing and a serious thing to have your picture made, so you took it very seriously.
Also if you smile evil camera would enter your mouth and grab your soul
The babushka in pic 22, the one pouring a pitcher into a tin cup, looks like Tom DeLay in drag!
