Dam Construction in St. Petersburg

Posted on August 20, 2010 by team

Here are some pictures of a dam construction in St. Petersburg.

This “monster” resembling an armored train of the Civil war time, will be used to push one of the barrier leaves preventing ships from entry to the water area of the Neva in case of flood threat.

It has special rails with teeth, the wheels – gears.

A huge “arm” is mounted to the vehicle to push the leaf of the water gate.

That’s how it looks like.

The lock preventing ships from entry.

Attachment point.

The water gate itself is located in the pool 15m deep, when the canal closes it is filled with water.

Main joint of the construction.

Two and a half men is funny as!

  4. George Johnson says:

Interesting. But you’d think hydraulics would work a little better than a train engine.

  5. Ivan says:

then, what? a Harry Poter engine?

Looks cool. Must be made in USA

    • Pacific NW says:

You mean bought by the USA and made in China, the communist paradise that owns America.

he he he !!! yeah right..

      • Archy Bunka says:

        A. Bunka here. I would just like to interseed here for one minute. Commie Paradise is a contradiction in terms. However, you touch upon a valid point, the largest mistake in USA foreign policy ever, giving most favored trade status to a communist dictatorship, Red China. A mistake that will surely bite the USA in the ass some day.

    • eger_666 says:

      Nope, it’s made in Russia.

How long before those tracks will fail and the city floods again?

  8. Boris Badenov says:

The Dutch build this stuff, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were contracted to design this one.

    • Tantuss says:

It is indeed build with help from the dutch.
I know some dutch people who are / were working on it.

Also the USA asks for help from the dutch for the knowledge about water management.

They are also making a new island in spb (and in Dubai).

I don’t care who made it, that’s some pretty impressive engineering.

@admin: I just have to say your website is the first I’ve come across this morning that doesn’t have typos every other line. Thanks for taking the time to construct something that doesn’t look like a 6th grader put together. I apologize, just had to vent.
