    Vnukovo Airport

Since there was business bounce in Moscow recently and with each year it goes more and more skyscraperier with hundreds of people from different countries arriving to the capital of Russia, need in expanding infrastructure of the megacity sprang up. The authorities of Moscow have been long thinking of building new terminal at one of the well-known airports of the Russian Federation. It is 2010 outdoors and the construction goes full speed. After the terminal is ready, Vnukovo airport will be one of the biggest and modern airports in Russia with capacity of 20 millions travelers a year.

Terminal view from a railway platform. This part will be finished at the very end.

    011

    021

Side lanes made of glass. Through them the passengers will be getting into an airplane from the upper level and out of an airplane into the lower level airport building.

    03

    Overall view.

    04s

    View from the roof.

    05

The terminal building will be put into service on a double basis. At first the central wing will be opened and then the last part with the tower.

    06

    07

40 meters high (120 feet) control tower.

    08

Now we’re coming into the building of the airport. You can see main entrance here. Someday, you would be coming in here with your luggage in hands.

    09

    Check-in counters on the left.

    105

Soon enough passengers with travelware will step into shoes of these working men.

    117

    Road to passport check.

    123

That’s almost all. Your luggage is checked in, visa is put on your passport and you are ready to enter the departure lounge. Duty-free stores are on the left and airport gates on the right.

    133

    143

    153

    163

    173

And that is the nicest place in the whole airport. Unfortunately, it will be opened later. Control tower and a huge aquarium will be situated there.

    182

    193

    202

Now it is time to go upstairs, up to the roof. And there are still some places where no photographers have ever treaded. Somehow it reminds me of The Day After Tomorrow movie.

After arrival all passengers are supposed to go to the lower level through glass sleeves where they will go through a passport check. The terminal is equipped with numerous moving sidewalks. It is obvious that the airport will be one of the biggest and modern ones in whole Moscow.

The problem is not the lack of terminals, but the immense corruption. Because managing a terminal means big money, everybody wants a piece of the cake. The end result: nothing happens, the terminals are unused or hardly used, like new Sjeremetevo terminal

Corruption and ‘networking’ will destroy Russia and its prospects, not a prediction, but a fact

What about budget carriers? The new superterminal will definitely make airport costs higher and reflect to ticket prices. Or is there any other limited facility terminal at Moscow area?
