In Russia lately the urge for social networking is hitting all the records. Two major competing social networks take away hours of time of young and not so young Russian people.
As different polls and studies revealed there is one thing that is most important for people while their are going virtually social. If you didn’t guess already what’s that addiction then I’ll give you a clue – it’s a mere appeal of people to show off. Not just to reveal themselves from their best sides but also they are all thirsty for being reviewed and get a “grade” – virtual estimate according to five-ball Russian system that comes from schools. So if you are cool enough you get “5″, a Russian analogue for “A” grade, so to say.

Listen here, a few days ago I was watching Russian news on “Perviy” Channel. I heard Medvedev saying that a good way for parents to check their children’s grades is to do it by computer.
Now. Tell me something, how the hell would one care about checking the grades on the internet in some lost town in the middle of nowhere where there’s no electricity, gas and INTERNET..
In my opinion, russian politicians are just trying to talk about really important problems (which have been forgotten a long ago in developed countries), but fix others which are not priority #1.

Totally agree with you. I’m over there every year visiting my grandparents and it’s scary. People are behaving like stray dogs, barking and yelling at each other. I know Russia from way back and I know it wasn’t like that. As if all russians turned into barbarians after the Perestroika, scary and most sad thing. In the last few years I really learned to hate my own people, it’s sad. But then again, in the last few years I learned to hate most people, so it doesn’t make any difference I guess

why to speculate about Zimbabve – there is Internet and you can google fo find out real situation – GDP (gross domestic production) PER CAPITA in Russia is the same as that of Brazil – which is approximatelly 3 times less then in USA…as for Slovakian guy – in Slovakia GDP per capita is only slightly bigger then in Russia – so he is funny boasing here…so instesd of arguing in vain wether Russia is behind “OTHER” countries – you first identify what are those OTHER – which exactly do you mean? – if to compare the whole range of countries on the Globe by economic development (there are tables and data all over Internet) – Russia is exactly in the middle of the list, like Brazil, (albeit with better, then in Brazil, science and technology), also there are some countries which are better off economically as compared to Russia, but much worse in social development (for example Saudi Arabia,and some Persian gulf oil muslim principalities).
Russia ain’t ahead, but Russia is big-headed… Russia ain’t England or America or Ireland or Iceland or Norway etc….

It seems that the people in the area of current western Russia throughout history have always had this back and forth relationship with technology. Ahead, behind.
