    New Technology of Construction

    Russian construction fire 2

In good old times they had built houses differently. In Russia there was a construction standard of two and a half brick thickness for a wall of a residential house. This was done in order to insulate the people's dwellings from -30 frosts hitting Russia in winters.

Later, when USSR collapsed, and they started free economics the standards were no longer followed by the most of the developers due to the high cost of the brick. It is much cheaper to make a thin one brick wall and then cover it with some high-tech insulation materials that provide same heat conservation as three brick thick wall.

It is even more cheaper to buy such materials from Chinese producers. Unfortunately, those are not always made according to industry standards. Insulation layers should be extremely fire proof. Unfortunately, not this time.

That happens because of evil Westerners. Westerners steal wealth of Russian people, that’s why they have to build cheap buildings.

Perhaps, but more likely Capitalism is to blame. This is what happens when a few people try to make a lot of money very quickly. Russian building standards haven’t caught up yet, that’s all.

With due respect, you both ignore some basic facts about this building fire.despite some influence of capitalist evils and their bad habits,we can`t close eyes towards building safety authority, civil right activist and engineering standards authority.the”chain”is very very long.we have to weak this “chain” and then blame others.

Capitalism works perfectly. The building was cheaply built. People exercised their freedom not to live there. The building burned and the owners are out their asset. However, in any case, “capitalism” hardly means no rules on buildings. We have those in America and all over Europe, obviously. Sometimes, buildings just catch fire — like, for example, the Russian-designed Chernobyl, built very poorly ’cause to the Soviets human life was cheaper than cement. The U.S. designs are far safer, which is why only the Soviets have ever had a disaster of this sort — which, by the way, Gorbachev tried to cover up. In the long run, you’re certainly better off free. Just ask Emma Goldman.

I just realized it’s possible those attacking me are not even in Russia, but pretending to be. I think the Russian people from the time of John Quincy Adams have had a love for freedom and are good people. Americans spend a LOT of time beating ourselves up for things, real and imagined, that we feel our country has done wrong. There’s no shame in this. Certainly if the USSR did things wrong, Russians should have no problem speaking out against them. I believe the design of Chernobyl and Gorbachev’s handling it are two such things. Perhaps it’s because someone from the outside is saying these things. If so, I apologize to anyone legitimately offended, but certainly not those who call name and use meaningless words like “troll” and “trolling.”

Old story. Corruption and the urge to fill your pockets as fast as possible. Order the cheapest materials, bribe the local supervisors [if any] and if construction materials get stolen, do the job with the remaining materials. Who cares

An empty building? A fire? I’ll bet a bottle of vodka that the fire was intentionally set by the developers in order to collect the insurance money because no one was buying their overpriced apartments.

Building standards? Heh. One of my former English students was a project manager for a major St. Petersburg construction firm and he showed me how every projects budget had to be inflated by 25% to cover ‘incidental expenses’ (bribes) to the inspectors. In Russia if one want to build something big like an apartment building legally, one needs to obtain something like 480 different permits before you can stick a shovel in the ground. It’s easier to just start building and when (not if) the building inspectors show up, just pay them off. It’s SOP in Russia.

I think it was done intentionally: in the last image the building looks exactly the same as the surrounding old buildings…

Blame everything on the west!I saw many things in Russia I would not have seen if capitalism did not exist!

99% of the products in the Russian Ikea Mega Malls and most other shops exist because of capitalism!

The economic crisis was created by the elites and was meant to happen. Also money has no real value unlike gold; it’s worthless paper. And money in the bank is just digits typed into a computer. There is always corruption regardless of what system is in place, capitalism, communism, etc.

Just be grateful nobody died. And blaming it on a group, culture or part of the world is just wrong and cheap folks. Try blaming those actually responsible instead of blaming the ‘other’. If history teaches us one thing, in every society there are those who want to make living the right way and those who won’t to make a living by stealing. It is basic human nature. No society can be free of it, unless of course you start deactivating higher brain functions in humans.
As my grandfather always said: ‘who doesn’t steal or inherit will work untill the day he dies’.

Same type of fire happened at a big Las Vegas hotel a few years ago, same type of exterior cladding caught fire and it all burned off exactly like this one did. They just throw them up, take the cash and run…
