    Yeah, it’s a Reauleaux triangle, nothing particularly special and nothing unique to Russia. But very cool the first time you hear about it.

    in machine shops they actually do drill square, hex, and octagon shaped holes everyday. They do this with a special tool and drill bit.

        Watts drill, google it. It’s not as simple as just boring a hole, but it works.

        You drill a round hole and then you push or pull a broach through it and you get a hole of whatever shape you want, as long as you have the appropriate broach. Another way is to do it with spark erosion. You can 3D print it. Or you can do it with a tool like described above, which is also a broaching tool rather than a drilling tool.
