Russian Space Centre

Posted on January 24, 2007 by

One guy from fotoduet.ru got a trip to a Russian space agency, near the Moscow city.

That’s a place where all the Russian austronauts, as well as commercial space travellers are being trained before their trip to space.

Here is his photos from that place, with some comments.

This is the place where the astronauts live during their training period. All the servicemen with their families, engineers and other people working in the Russian space agency live here also, total there are 7500 people in this small town around the space agency.

That’s a lobby of one of the training centers.

“We keep manned MIR mission going”

Yeah, under the water now.
From this building the manned MIR station was controlled.

This is a full-size working model of Russian space station “MIR” which was taken down to ocean recently.

That’s a monument of Gagarin, the first man in space ever. He says “Preved!” (hello, on russian) to all the people entering Russian space agency.

That’s a full-size simulator of descent vehicle.

One more simulator.

Some Russian space artefact.

Another simulator.

From this room some of the simulators are being controlled. Check out the phone.

The simulator from inside. It’s very cramped in there.

Simulator control panel, back from 70s.

Cool things back from 70s.

The scientific branch of space agency.

This is a Russian space station inside of a giant pool, underwater.

This is the inner corridor of these pool with windows coming inside the pool where the station is located. Instructors control astronauts from here.

These are parts of the current International space station.

This is the bathroom inside of Russian segment of ISS. You can easily guess about what is for the thing with the white cover. And the thing with the yellow cover works like vaccum cleaner, used for the urination needs of the astronauts. It’s being said that women-astronauts experience difficulties with using that thing.

This one is a fully-working part of Russian ISS module. It works and is used to train Russian astronauts. It’s being built totally from Russian components, according to its exterior some of the components could come back from 70s.

This is the passage between two rooms in ISS.

That’s the author himself. This place may look familiar to some of you, because right from the same place in space astronauts communicate with control center on the Earth.

That’s a fan. You can take it from the wall and use for your needs.

All the “on-board” documentation is being stored in the soft bags.

Those handles are all over the ISS modules. In weightlessness state in space they come very handy.

Those headphones don’t look so stylish but you can through them down from the Empire State Building and they would not break.

Another copy of Russian International Space Station module. A lot of handles and inside the walls there are scientific equipment.

That’s a commanding point, the one from which astronauts talk with Earth.

Same place, now without any astronauts as they can be seen from the Earth.

This is how this ISS modules look from outside. They are now covered with cellophane because renovation occurs in space agency these days.

That’s a centrifuge, astronauts here are being trained to stand overload up to 8G, though the device can produce 30G overloads. The cabin inside rotates on two axis.

The room with the centrifuge is being locked as a bank depositary.

And that’s some shots from the “Museum of Austronatics” in Russian Space agency.

That’s special pants. Astronauts use them to make extra blood flush to legs, because in space they don’t use legs much and legs can suffer without enough blood.

This suit is being used to stimulate austronaut’s muscles. You can hardly move in this suit thus your muscles work hard and receive training. It’s important in space. Though it’s being said austronauts don’t like to use this suit, but they have to.

That was a Gagarin room, the guy who flew to space for the first time. All Russian austronauts come here to sit quitely for a couple of minutes right before the launch.

This is amazing, beyond beautiful. Also, I am a fan of old telephones; I would really like to own a telephone like the one in the photo above.

  2. Stephen says:

    Amazing. Thanks for posting these.

  3. Louis says:

Wow! Simply beautifull ! Russian space technology look less flashy than american but i belive it’s more robust, functional and secure. MIR was a good example. I love the way they do things to work and their ingeniousness.

    Thanks for the photos !

Very kewl for us here in the states to see what things look like in other parts of the world.

9th picture down with caption “Some Russian space artefact.” I think is a fire extinguisher.

  9. somechick says:

Yeah! That place is pretty awesome, I’ve been there a couple years ago when I was 14 and saw how everything worked! Thanks for the photos I have some but not of everything!

  10. WOW! I have no words to say how beautiful these things are and how I admire russian efforts to go beyond the americans in space! Places like these must make you proud of being russian!

  11. DexTrOz says:

you guys at englishrussia are awesome! btw, that instrument you refer to as “Some Russian space artefact.” is most likely a wheeled fire extinguisher for use right here on earth.

  12. jim says:

the mir space station was controlled from the RKK Energiya space flight center in Korolev (suburban moscow), not where these pics are taken
Ive been there lots of times, theyve got some pretty neat stuff, like the frozen control rooms for the Buran (soviet space shuttle) and the mir station itself.

    great post otherwise

  13. Zimmerit says:

Great post, but aren’t russian astronauts really called cosmonauts? Like chinese space are called taikonauts. Thumbs up otherwise!

  14. deepak says:

Whate is your name in russia space center

  15. deepak says:

whate is your name russian space agency

  16. Gabriel says:

Astronauts were called “cosmonauts” in the USSR and also in all other socialist countries I think. LOL… anti-spam word is “kgb” =)

sir ……..now today i talk about gravity,,,,,,,in my means gravity need 0xygen … let us assume imaginery formula g for gravity o2 for oxygen /………………g+02= g02 …..go2+ co2=gco2………………………………………it imaginary gravity formula ,,,,it is for human being ,,affical things like car bike too work upon gravity,,they too speed with help of oxygen,,,,,as air is all arond other air too but i constrate on oxygen .,,,,,,,now u say we found caco3 in mars,, for creating carbon dioxide it needs mediun ..like we are medium of carbon dioxide,,,,my sense whole science depend on oxygen,, even we too,,,,,,,,,,,,einstein say there is gravity in open space,,,, there must be carbon dioxide, also ,present,,,there will be a medium which create co2…. in spce we can cannot able to know the cmposition of air because atomsphoric pressure,, as your shuttle cross the border of earth its speed goes on decresing because atomsperic pressure,,,,,,if we don”t have lung and heart in our body then we can easily move around in space, because these organ work according law of atomosphric pressure,,,,if u go to mars your space craft when take off its speed increses because change i natomspheric pressure,,,,,,,,,every planet ihave definate atomspheric pressure ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,atomspheric pressure constiutent the gravity of planet,,,,,,,,,,,,in open space gravity t in very lage quatity because of increase atomspheric pressure,,,,,,,,,,,…..according to your my thhinking there is life in every planet if u found traces co2.. co2 can only be produce by the medium,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if caco3 present in mars there life,, because there is meduim of production,,,,,,there must be species which produce oxygen…………..and atomsphric pressure diffrent in diffrent planet but there certain planet which do not have immnunity make the atomspheric pressure constant,,,, so it change,,,,,,,,,,,alien body either has immuity to handle such atomspheric pressure,,,,,or not .. but i will prove as first constrate on mars,,,,,,,gravity varies with diffrent planet due to atomspheric pressure,,,,,,,, pressure………….of space,,,,,,,as heart wil burst if not wear space suit because heart accroding the priciple of pressure…..as there solar radiation in space solar radition occur thrugh nucluer explosion hillium and all outproduct is radiation a solar radiation so if any energy tramit in large quatity it will come towards with lots of energy……………………….and when solar radiation and increase atomspheric pressure come in contact ,but it not come in contact because atomsphric pressure also make diffrence in speed of solar radiation,,,,for eg if aeroplane take off there is heavy wind in the atomsphere it varies its speed ,,, but aeroplane not have such energy like sun,,,,let me think,,for eg,,,,,,if u lauch missle any missle from antactica there is lots preesure of winds,,,,, and temprature also goes down,,, it make problem in launching the missle,,, only nucluer missle will launch because it has lots of energy,,, simaliary sun gases of nucluer explosion comprise hydrogen and hilum with some amount oxygen and nitrogen,,,,,,,but without atomic explosion sun cannot work,,,,emit the rays to diffrent planet,,,,so when sun radiation react with atomspheric pressure on space there is diffrence in speed of solar radiation,,,,,,,,that why it take 8 mins to come on earth… now came on to gravity………..in space,,,,,,,,,,as einstein make the formula e=mc2… matter changes with mars,,,,,,,he also said that there is gravity in open space,,,,,,,,,,,,,just because diffrent in size of our planet,,,planet near jupiter in open space have lots gravity ..it depend on mass of the planet,,,,,,,,,,,,that why that gravity varies in open space,, gravity varies because of this in open space size of planet,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but yar u have brain its mass doesn”t matter its pressure alos matter,, see our body if we have mass no lungs and all… so gravity also depend on atomspheric presurre also….. hence proved gravity depend atomspheric pressure and mass of the planet……..i am inborn scientist by nature theory appear whenever i study about space, i can help you if you make me more effcient,,,,
