This is a first time after Chernobyl disaster at 1986, when a nuclear power plant blew up and poisonous clouds with nuclear particles could move to Europe. The reason is because the goverment of Lukashenko implements special limits for importing American and European cigarettes. And those limits are split between a few Belarus companies. But the demand for Marlboro and other brands already exceeds the limit, so in September experts say there would be a lack of famous cigarettes on the Belarus market. Sources in government say that there are no reasons to worry.

And that there would be no tobacco crisis. But it’s important to mention that such a crisis already took a place in 2005, when people in Belarus were totally deprived of the western tobacco products. The importers don’t share the optimistic beliefs of the government. They expect that soon the deficit would appear and exceed the 500 million quantity, which is one quarter of total cigarette consumption in Belarus. Importers also say that their main resources on warehouses would end by the middle of September.
